The organization remains responsible for its own collection and use of personal information and may have a separate employee or workforce privacy notice that applies to you.
8.3 Business Transactions
If RateMyPay or the entity operating RateMyPay is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, insolvency process, or similar corporate transaction, personal information may be disclosed or transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law and appropriate confidentiality protections.

9. Sale, Sharing, Targeted Advertising, and Data Brokers
RateMyPay does not intend to operate as a data broker or to sell personal information as a standalone business model.
Certain U.S. state privacy laws define “sale,” “sharing,” and “targeted advertising” broadly. Depending on the technologies used on the RateMyPay website, some disclosures to advertising or analytics partners could fall within those definitions even when no money changes hands. RateMyPay will provide legally required notices and opt-out mechanisms if and when those activities occur and applicable law requires them.
If RateMyPay is subject to a law that requires an opt-out from sale, sharing, or targeted advertising, eligible users may exercise that choice through the method described in the “U.S. State Privacy Rights” section below or through a “Your Privacy Choices” or similar link made available on the website.
10. International and Cross-Border Processing
RateMyPay is intended for users in Canada and the United States. We may use service providers, infrastructure, or personnel located in Canada, the United States, or other countries.
As a result, personal information may be stored or processed outside your province, state, or country of residence. When information is processed in another jurisdiction, it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction and may be accessible to courts, law enforcement, national security authorities, or other governmental authorities in accordance with applicable law.
Where required, RateMyPay uses contractual, organizational, and technical measures designed to provide an appropriate level of protection for information transferred across borders.
11. Data Retention
RateMyPay retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or as otherwise permitted or required by law. Factors considered when determining retention periods may include:
- how long an account remains active;
- the period needed to provide a requested service;
- legal, tax, accounting, audit, or regulatory requirements;
- the need to maintain security, prevent fraud, or resolve disputes;
- contractual obligations;
- applicable limitation periods.
When personal information is no longer required, RateMyPay may securely delete, destroy, anonymize, or de-identify it in accordance with applicable law and internal retention practices.
12. Information Security
RateMyPay uses administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Depending on the nature of the information and Services, safeguards may include encryption, access controls, authentication, role-based permissions, logging, security monitoring, secure development practices, vendor controls, and employee confidentiality obligations.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. RateMyPay cannot guarantee absolute security. Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of passwords and account credentials and should contact us promptly if they suspect unauthorized access to an account.
13. Privacy Breaches and Incident Response
RateMyPay maintains processes designed to identify, investigate, contain, remediate, and document privacy and security incidents. Where an incident triggers notification obligations under applicable law, RateMyPay will provide notifications to affected individuals, regulators, customers, or other parties as required.

15.1 California Privacy Rights
If the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (collectively, “CCPA”), applies to RateMyPay and to your information, California residents may have rights to know, access, delete, correct, opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, limit certain uses and disclosures of sensitive personal information, and receive equal service and pricing when exercising privacy rights, subject to applicable exceptions.
California law may also require disclosure of categories of personal information collected, categories of sources, business or commercial purposes, categories of recipients, and categories of personal information sold, shared, or disclosed for business purposes during the relevant reporting period. RateMyPay will update this Privacy Policy or provide a California-specific notice if required based on its actual data practices and legal applicability.
If RateMyPay sells or shares personal information as defined by California law, RateMyPay will provide the required “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” or “Your Privacy Choices” mechanism and will honor legally recognized opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control, where required.
15.2 Colorado and Other U.S. State Rights
If applicable, residents of Colorado and other states with comprehensive consumer privacy laws may have rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of personal data, and to opt out of certain sales, targeted advertising, or qualifying profiling. Some states also provide an appeal right if a privacy request is denied. RateMyPay will honor universal opt-out mechanisms where required by applicable law.
15.3 How to Exercise U.S. Privacy Rights
To submit a privacy request, use one of the following methods:
- Email: privacy@ratemypay.com
- Web form: https://dev.ratemypay.com/contact?topic=privacy
RateMyPay may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests. Verification requirements will depend on the type and sensitivity of the information and the right being exercised.

16. Sensitive Personal Information
Some information handled through RateMyPay may be considered sensitive under certain privacy laws depending on context, such as account credentials, precise geolocation if ever collected, certain financial information, or other data defined as sensitive by applicable law. RateMyPay will process sensitive personal information only for permitted purposes, with consent where required, and subject to safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity.
RateMyPay does not need precise geolocation, government identification numbers, health information, biometric identifiers, or similar highly sensitive information to provide its core individual compensation assessment unless a specific feature expressly requests such information. Users should not submit highly sensitive information unless RateMyPay specifically requests it for a stated purpose.
17. Children and Minors
RateMyPay is designed for employment, compensation, career, and business use and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 in the United States, or from children where parental or guardian consent would otherwise be required by applicable law.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to RateMyPay in circumstances where consent was required, contact us at privacy@ratemypay.com so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
RateMyPay does not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 where California law would require affirmative authorization.
18. Business Customer and Employee Data
RateMyPay Business may process personal information that an organization provides about employees, candidates, contractors, or other individuals. In many circumstances, the organization determines why and how that information is processed, and RateMyPay processes it on the organization’s behalf.
If you are an employee or other individual whose information was submitted by your employer or another organization, you should first contact that organization regarding its privacy practices and your rights. RateMyPay will assist business customers with privacy obligations as required by applicable law and contract.
This section does not limit any rights you may have directly against RateMyPay where RateMyPay acts as the business, controller, or other entity independently responsible for the processing.
19. Accuracy and User Responsibility
You are responsible for providing information that is accurate to the best of your knowledge. You may update certain account information through the Services where functionality is available, or request correction by contacting RateMyPay.
Because compensation and labour-market information changes over time, RateMyPay may update methodologies, datasets, ranges, estimates, and outputs. Historical results may therefore differ from later results.
